Since the first of April 2019, we have been travelling more than 30,000 kilometres by bike and tent. And suddenly it goes blow by blow.
The camera which has enriched our blog with so many pictures, suddenly makes the grit in Pont-Aven. That is a catastrophe. Constantly we think, what a beautiful motif, what great light … and no camera that can capture that. From now on there are stories without pictures or with bad quality mobile phone pictures and we collect the memories in our heads.
The tent, set up and dismantled for more than 300 days, tears. The UV light has made it porous.
One tooth breaks off. (The repair must wait for the local dentist.)
The Ortlieb-bag loses a bracket on the French mogul slopes which we can replace. The slightly defective closure of the Ortlieb handlebar bag can be glued.
A wheel bearing must be replaced. After trying in vain to get both the spare part and the tool at a reasonable price, we fortunately find a bicycle shop in Carhaix, in Northern Brittany. It has been impossible to think of continuing. The chainrings jump. Two new chains have been remedying the situation as of today.
The Sea-to-Summit mats, replaced after the first year, are also giving up their spirit this year. We get the money back, but it does not really help while we are on the road. Now the second one has also become pregnant.
The plug, already the second replacement model, lasts 10,000 kilometers and then does nothing at all.
A dog bites the new MSR pot used in the season to get the last piece of ham of the delicious pasta.
We disposed of Astrid’s ebook reader months ago.
The credit card is eaten in Santander. There are no replacements as long as we travel.
We left our swimming trunks on the beach at the atlantic coast. Luckily, Decathlon, the famous outdoor and sports store, is available nationwide.
The tablet is in its first year. Now the glass on the monitor has a crack.
Cable clutter: Charging cables must be replaced.
Cycling pants, laundry and socks have the longest time behind them. Torn, worn, the rubbers worn out. Some disposed of immediately. Others are sorted out at home.
This is our equipment contribution. Best regards from Ouistreham, on the Norman coast where we have breakfast in the morning sun overlooking the Orne!
